What does your home say about you? Does it say you are creative, calm, welcoming? Or does it say you are run off your feet from one thing to the next, or isolated, hiding behind your things?
The new year is a great time to think about the story you want your home to tell about you. As you clean up from Christmas and put away the old year, consider this question.
What does your home say about you?
Think about the ‘stuff’ that has entangled your lives and bogged you down over the past year. Whether it be old memories or clutter that has piled up over time. We all have that spot our homes, you know, the drop zone. It’s important to recognize that our stress can be connected to our things. Is this the story you want your home to tell about you?
Our family recently made a big move to the west coast. This provided a great opportunity to prioritize the things in our home that were important to us and our story. You don’t want to haul something across the country if it isn’t something you enjoy!
Our bedroom is a place we begin and end each day so it was important that this be a space of peace. I wanted to make sure surfaces such as bedside tables were clear and everything had a place, minimizing clutter helps to create tranquility in this space. The white linens create a clean backdrop for the room and the pop of colour, shows a bit of my creative side. The photo over the bed is a key element that is significant to me. I love this phrase, it’s a great reminder to pause, take a breath and be present. Are there key elements within a room that bring you joy and peace? Or tell a bit about who you are and what is important to you?
